Friends of Horsbere Brook Work Days

Tree Care - Queen's Green Canopy Woodland (by the railway)

  • Saturday 27 April -  10:30am to 1pm

We will be clearing weeds from the newly planted trees, checking stakes and guards and mulching trees using recycled woodchip. The mulch will suppress weed growth and give the trees a nutrient boost. Meet by the main gate at the session start time or find us by the railway. Please bring a drink for break time. We look forward to seeing you.

Tree Care - The Mound Hedge

  • Monday 22 April  9:30am to 12:30pm
We will be weeding around trees, and removing guards from mature trees along The Mound hedge. This will give the trees a chance to develop their lower branches. We will also be using recycled Christmas tree mulch to give the trees a nutrient boost and as a weed suppressant. Please bring a bucket if you have one and a drink for tea break - all tools provided. Meet by the main gate at 9:30 am or find us in the hedge around the Mound (or by the mulch pile!)

Pulling Goats Rue - Green Lane Reserve

  • Friday 12 April 9:30am to 12:30pm
Goats rue is invasive, we pull it annually to prevent it taking over the reserve. Join us pulling goats rue, if time allows we will also trim path edges around the boundaries of the reserve and pull goats rue. Find us in the reserve by the pumping station. Light Trimming, Path Edges - Hucclecote Meadows SSSI

  • Friday 10 May 9:30am to 12:30pm
Join us lightly trimming path edges around the reserve. Meet by the main entrance on Lobleys Drive at 9:30am or find us around the edges of the meadows. Fencing and Trimming - Hucclecote Meadows SSSI

  • Friday 14 June 9:30am to 12:30pm
Join us as repair fences around the reserve and build a new refuge for the kissing gate. For those who prefer there will also be paths to trim. Please bring a drink for tea break, all tools provided. Meet by the main gate on Lobleys Drive at 9:30am or find us in the far SSSI field (by the left hand kissing gate). For further details please email felicity.davies@gloucester.gov.uk

Ragwort Pulling

  • Friday 26 July - 9:30am to 12:30pm - Hucclecote Meadows
  • Friday 9 August - 9:30am to 12:30pm - Green Lane Reserve
We pull ragwort annually in the meadows and at Green Lane. Ragwort is highly invasive and quickly takes over the meadow. It is also toxic to livestock so is pulled prior to hay making. Please wear long sleeves and bring a drink for tea break. For Hucclecote Meadows meet by the signboard on Lobleys Drive Entrance, for Green Lane please meet by the kissing gate off Laxton Road at 9.30 am or find us in the reserve. On the 9th of August we will start at Green Lane and progress to Hucclecote Meadows if time allows. For further information please email felicity.davies@gloucester.gov.uk

Friends of Robinswood Hill Working Party

We help the Rangers with their conservation work on the hill, mainly clearing scrub and clearing footpaths. When the birds are not nesting we can be found hacking at undergrowth and having huge bonfires enjoyed by all.  Cleaning up some of the wellheads and putting in benches and oiling the wood sculptures have also been on the agenda.

We meet on the first Thursday of every month except July and August when most people are busy with holidays etc. We meet at 2pm every month except in December and January when we meet at 1pm.  If you cannot do the full two hours that is fine, just do what you can and rest whenever you feel the need.  Of course you do not need to attend every time, we all have lives to lead, so just come when you can. Tea/coffee and cakes are provided at half time!

We meet at various locations on the hill depending on what the Rangers decide needs doing, The Rangers provide all the equipment, all you need to bring is a stout pair of shoes or boots, some thick gloves and protective/warm clothing.

Friends of Alney Island

Litter Pick - Alney Island

  • Sunday 28 April 10am to 12 pm

Join us as for a litter pick around the island. Meet in the main reserve car park (what3words \\\bonus.corner.codes) at 10 am to collect tools. Please bring a drink for breaktime, all tools provided. All bags please to be returned to the car park when you have finished your wander. Thank you for your help!
